After a shipwreck off the coast of Illyria, Viola disguises herself as a young man and enters the service of Duke Orsino. She falls in love with him while he sends her to court the Countess Olivia, who in turn falls for the disguised Viola. Meanwhile, the steward Malvolio becomes the target of a cruel prank by Sir Toby Belch, Maria and their friends. Viola's twin brother Sebastian, believed drowned, turns up and sets off a string of mistaken identities. This Folger edition, edited by Barbara A. Mowat and Paul Werstine, has explanatory notes on the pages facing the text, scene-by-scene summaries and illustrations from the Folger collection.
